Samsung develops revolutionary ‘realistic pixels’ for OLED displays

Samsung has recently applied to trademark a new display technology called Lifelike Pixels, which can offer better color reproduction and wider viewing angles than existing OLED displays.

Samsung has filed a trademark application for a new display technology called Lifelike Pixels. The application was made by Samsung Display and the technology is likely to be used in OLED displays and tablets. But the technology has the potential to be used in other devices, such as laptops and smartwatches with AR/VR displays.

Samsung brand, realistic pixel

The trademark registration for Lifelike Pixels was made on the same day that Samsung filed a trademark application for Flex Hybrid, a new type of display that folds and slides simultaneously. The technology is designed for future laptops that can fold into smaller sizes. Samsung also showcases three additional display panels:

  • Stretch
  • Out Flex Scrollable Duet
  • Flexible Scrollable Solo.

It’s not clear exactly how Realistic Pixels technology works, but it may have to do with the improved color reproduction in OLED displays. This would be a significant improvement over Samsung’s already excellent OLED technology, known for its high contrast ratio, wide viewing angles and fast response times.

Finally, Samsung’s Lifelike Pixels trademark filing shows that the company is working on a new display technology that will be used in future products. While we don’t know exactly what technology it is yet, it could improve the color reproduction of OLED displays. We can expect this feature to be rolled out in future Samsung devices, and it may become available to other smartphone manufacturers in the future.
