OUR Sweden seeks to develop an important new technological resource: a way to produce steel without polluting the environment. AT Kirunacity ​​beyond the polar circle, company LCAB invests in ecological hydrogen. In doing so, the idea is that the largest underground iron ore mine on the planet will facilitate the transition to a sustainable model. On the other hand, this place is approx. 80% of all ore iron mined in the European Union (HM) and we get 1600 meters depth, being the main component of steel, can potentially be fundamental in the so-called ecological industrial revolution.

The developed technology is called HYBRITsecond Suzanne Ericsson Rostmarkhead of the study, told EuroNews. Suzanne added his explanation:

“When we deliver a piece of iron ore, it consists of both iron and oxygen. To remove oxygen, our customers have used coal and coal, which produce carbon dioxide. (…) In this new process, we will use hydrogen, which, when oxygen is removed, forms only water vapor. So this production is completely carbon-free.”

To strengthen the project EU Innovation Fund invested $143 million; however, despite the multimillion-dollar aid, the authorities believe that they will need a much larger sum in order not to lose influence in this dispute with large countries such as US and China. Regardless of this aspect, participants said they did not intend to start a “race” to determine which member states would use more government subsidies to avoid unnecessary trade wars.

Europe’s largest deposit of “rare earth” elements is located in Kiruna

The largest warehouse in Europe, in the city of Kiruna, has at least million tons in its interior. While this is good news, much more investment will be required to use resources effectively. Ebba BushDeputy Prime Minister of Sweden, noted:

“Obviously, we are not interested in a trade war with the US, we are not interested in having member states of the Union in some kind of race to see which of them uses more government subsidies (…) However, we need to find a way for the EU to vigorously and responded strongly to all of this, ensuring that our companies and industries are better placed to achieve their lofty climate goals. I think it is possible, but in the next six months we will have very important discussions with the Commission and the European Council.”

Also this month European Commission will submit proposals for a new green industrial plan, as well as a new European Sovereign Fund aimed at improving public investment. Between February 9 and 10, all of these topics outlined here will be discussed in EU summitin Brussels.
