Airbus, one of the world’s largest aircraft manufacturers, is seeking investors for its solar-powered high-altitude surveillance and communications drone program called Zephyr.
This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to Bloomberg.
The company turned to Morgan Stanley to manage the investor finding process. It was noted that the name of the drone development division will be changed to Aalto. The company representative also said that Airbus will continue to own its own shares. As a cheaper and more mobile alternative to satellites, Airbus plans to use Zephyr drones, which can hover more than 21,000 meters for months, almost motionless.
The drone can provide mobile coverage, monitor the sea, conduct border patrols, monitor forest fires and natural disasters.
According to the news of Ukrinform, the Zephyr, an unmanned aerial vehicle powered by solar cells belonging to Airbus company, crashed after being in the air for 64 days in the summer of last year.
