The minister points out that the increase in the company’s production in the country is a success story, because in addition to being an alternative to Chinese factories, the government also put pressure on local production of devices.

The increase in the production of Apple technology in the country will occur mainly due to the fact that foxconn plans to quadruple the workforce at its plant on the outskirts of Chennai city. Piyush Goyal has not said when the tech giant intends to accomplish this feat, but previous rumors have indicated that it will be from 2025.

Dependence on China is expected to continue for many years

It has recently been found that dependence on Chinese manufacturing an Apple fell to 36% in 2021 thanks to installations in other countries such as India, Vietnam and Indonesia. For comparison, in 2019, 44 to 47% of the company’s production came from China.
