Even now, the Pentagon is looking to the future with Abrams version 4 (SEPv4), with the US military introducing SEPv3, a model to be acquired by Poland and Australia.

The Abrams tank is currently in development and is equipped with the third generation FLIR system (3GEN), a cornering technology that will allow tank crews to detect enemy targets at greater distances than ever before. The third generation MANPADS (3GEN) will be upgraded and shared with other combat platforms,” the US Army said in a statement regarding SEPv4.

After the upgrade, Abrams Commander’s Sight will also be integrated with a color camera, laser rangefinder and cross-platform laser pointer to facilitate multi-area combat.

Additionally, the M1A2 SEPv4 will include full-featured training to maximize crew skills. The program is reportedly designed to “overlay” any technology the military considers critical to the future battlefield, including artificial intelligence, autonomy, APS or advanced sensors.
