Microsoft will keep users of the current operating system updated for at least 10 years. This has been reported by the XDA post.
Media reporters explained how Microsoft’s operating system support policy is regulated. According to the authors, each edition of Windows 11 Home or Pro is supported for 24 months, while Enterprise and Education are supported for 36 months after launch. That is, if the base version of Windows 11 was released on October 5, 2021, the support period will end on October 10, 2023.
At the same time, users can get practically unlimited support if they upgrade to more recent versions of the operating system from time to time. For example, PC owners running Windows 11 22H2 will receive the update until October 8, 2024. “At the right time Microsoft will ask you to upgrade to the latest version to extend the support cycle”– the authors revealed the mechanics of the updates.
The article also states that users of the Microsoft operating system receive five years of basic support and at least 10 years of extended support from the time of release. The company calls this a fixed lifecycle policy. Thus, Windows 11-based PC owners will be supported for at least 15 years in total.
