The base model Mac mini with the M2 chip received slower read and write speeds compared to the previous generation with the M1 chip. This was reported by the Macrumors portal.
So, thanks to a computer review on the YouTube channel Brandon Geekabit, it was learned that the Mac mini M2 with 256 GB of memory is equipped with a single NAND flash memory chip, while its predecessor has two modules of 128 GB each. This design allowed the system to distribute the load among the chips, thus achieving higher read and write speeds. This decision was also reflected positively on the memory lifetime in the Mac mini M1.
Using Blackmagic Disk Speed Test, Macrumors found the new Mac mini’s SSD read and write speeds of around 1500MB/s, which is 30-50% slower than the previous generation’s.
It was also revealed in the summer of 2022 that the 13-inch MacBook Pro and the 256GB MacBook Air with the M2 chip use a single NAND memory chip, which negatively affects the storage speed.
