Meta will restore former US President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts in the coming weeks after he blocked them during the Capitol attack two years ago.

This was expressed by the company’s head of international affairs Nick Clegg, reported that Ukrinform referred to Axios.

“We’ve always believed that Americans should have the opportunity to hear the voices of people claiming leadership in the country, and we don’t want to get in the way of them that way.”

According to him, Trump will be subject to all the new rules, especially the regulation of accounts of famous people during the period of unrest. Depending on the severity of the violations, you may receive an account restriction of one month to two years.

“If he starts using our services, we don’t want him to do what he did on January 6 again – use our services to discredit the elections in 2024, as he tried to do in 2020,” Clegg said.

At the same time, the company can use additional technical tools for “risky” posts, for example with QAnon tips, and limit access without blocking them, displaying the “share” button, allowing advertising.

According to Clegg, Meta is not in contact with Trump’s representatives and does not know if he plans to return to the platform when given the opportunity.

Meta, along with Twitter and other companies, blocked Trump’s accounts shortly after the events of January 6, 2021, for violating the rules and using the platform to encourage his followers to do something.

On Facebook and Instagram, Trump has 34 million and 23 million followers, respectively.

In previous campaigns, Trump has used social media tools extensively for advertising and fundraising.

Twitter has already reinstated Trump’s account, but has yet to post.
