Lauren Sanchez, 53, a television reporter and helicopter pilot, said she was excited to lead the upcoming all-female mission.
“These are going to be women who are influential and have a say in changing the world for the better,” she told The Wall Street Journal in an interview.
The names of other participants in the mission are expected to be clarified closer to the expected launch date.
Sanchez also added that her boyfriend, Amazon and Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos, will not be joining the task. Bezos made his own space flight in July 2021. Their relationship went public in January 2019.
To date, Blue Origin has successfully launched six crewed suborbital missions aboard the reusable New Shepard spacecraft. The last one took place in August 2022.
