Roketsan has developed a new combat compartment and turret for Turkish M60A3 tanks. It is known that the Turkish Armed Forces has more than 600 M60A3 main battle tanks. Within the scope of the TİYK-M60A3 program, these combat vehicles are planned to be modernized and have similar capabilities to the M60TM. Roketsan has developed a new welded turret with a 105 mm gun and autoloader. Thanks to the new design, the tower has become 1.5 tons lighter.

Detailed visualization of the Turkish M60A3 tank modernization project within the scope of the TİYK-M60A3 program from Roketsan.

The new turret under the 105MM MZK index is equipped with an on-board dynamic protection complex, an auxiliary power plant and an automatic loader for a 105 mm gun. Also in the tower are modern opto-electronic surveillance devices, a laser radiation warning system and a SARP remote combat module with a large-caliber 12.7 mm machine gun. Roketsan stated that it used its own solutions when equipping the tank with dynamic protection elements, but borrowed them from the upgraded Leopard 2A4 tanks. Therefore, the TİYK-LEO 2A4 and TİYK-M60A3 modernization programs will be largely combined.

In the case of a deep merge, the M60, modernized according to the similar project TİYK-LEO 2A4, should receive a modernized Volkan-III/TAKS fire control system and a new electric gun-driven stabilization system. The Volkan-III/TAKS system was developed in Turkey using only Turkish components. It provides a simplified system architecture, effective day and night vision, high probability of first-shot hit, and fire control functions, both at rest and on the go, in difficult combat, terrain and weather conditions.

The anonymous laser radiation warning system must be the TLUS complex or its analog LIAS. In addition, it is planned to install a modular T1 additional reservation set belonging to Roketsan and the Ballistic Protection Center on the tank. The T1 complex consists of self-developed NERA dynamic protection packages designed to protect against ATGM missiles. So, from the Russian “Cornet”, the Soviet “Bassoon”, “Konkurs” or the American TOW 2. It is also planned to install anti-accumulation side grilles in the engine and transmission compartment area.
