Samsung and Qualcomm have entered into a partnership for the upcoming Samsung smartphone series. Companies have been known to collaborate in the past, such as when Samsung was a smartphone partner for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Pro Series. This time around, the upcoming Galaxy S23 series will feature a unique chipset, officially named “Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy”.
The chipset may have a long name, but Samsung has created a simpler way to remind consumers of the custom chipset powering its new flagships, the redesigned new Snapdragon logo. It will be included in promotional materials. Consumers can expect this logo to appear prominently on billboards and online starting next week when Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series is officially unveiled at its Galaxy Unpacked Event on February 1. The chipset will be exclusive to Samsung at least at launch, and the details of the deal with Qualcomm are currently unclear.
The specifications of the Galaxy S23 series have already been leaked. For starters, the basic Galaxy S23 features a 6.1-inch FHD+ (2340 x 1080) AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The Galaxy S23+ has a larger 6.6-inch display, but the display specifications are the same as the Galaxy S23. The Galaxy S23 Ultra is expected to feature a 6.8-inch QHD+ (3088 x 1440) AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The phones have the best features and camera settings. The definition of ‘Snapdragon for Galaxy’ is also expected to stick to the Galaxy S24 series. With all that being said, it’s possible that Samsung will switch to using its own chipset in the future.
