Research icebreaker “Noosphere” reached the Ukrainian Antarctic station “Akademik Vernadskyi”. This was reported on the social networks of the National Academy of Sciences. The ship docked near Galindez Island on 27 January 2023.
“For us, the arrival of “Noosphere” is a very enjoyable event, because it is the opportunity to finally see our colleagues and compatriots after 10 months of hibernation and welcome guests from home. And this is also the beginning of a very responsible work – a major repair at our beloved station“, noted Yuriy Otruba, the 27th UAE President.
They note that “Noosphere” delivered cargo and a team of technical workers to the station. They have to work on the modernization of the equipment of the station “Academic Vernadskyi”, which is necessary for the winter preparation of the next 28th UAE. The heating system at the station should be changed and the grounding of the diesel and main buildings should be done. After unloading, the icebreaker will go to the Chilean port of Punta Arenas to ensure that the annual voyage on “Vernadsky” changes in the future.Icebreaker “Noosphere” off the coast of Antarctica, January 2023 Photo: NASC
