According to past rumors, it was thought that Apple was working on a foldable iPad that it would introduce in 2024. It was previously speculated that Apple’s foldable iPad could replace the iPad Mini series. But recent reports suggest that Apple’s iPad refresh will be delayed until late 2024 to fill the gap with the new iPad Mini 7 and foldable iPad.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is known for his accurate predictions of Apple product launches using supply chain data. But Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shared an opinion of his own that somewhat contradicted Kuo’s predictions. According to Gürman, 2023 will be a “light year” for the iPad, as there will be no foldable iPads in the future. He believes the long-awaited OLED iPad Pro will be introduced in 2024 alongside updates to the core iPad and iPad mini.
Past reports suggested that the 20-inch foldable device will have a screen size of 20.25 inches when unfolded. When folded, it will have a 15.3-inch screen. The report also states that Apple will only launch foldable devices after adding OLED panels to its lineup. Since Apple has not yet added OLED displays to its iPads, it may be a while before they release a foldable iPad.
Gürman’s information is believed to come from Apple and its connections in the supply chain, and although he often agrees with Kuo, this time he disagrees. Despite years of speculation and hints, it’s still unclear whether Apple will release a foldable device, as the market for such products is still limited. Also, Apple is known to improve its current technology before releasing a product, so we can expect the same from its first foldable device.
