“We have decided to make the US our number 1 priority in terms of markets.“, said Carl Pei, CEO of Nothing, in an interview with the publication reverse.

Unfortunately, the same will not happen with Nothing Phone (1)because it does not support bands used by US carriers. But the launch of Nothing Phone (2) at the end of the year is aimed at this market, so its design is primarily aimed at this market.

When it developed and released Nothing Phone (1), the company did not have the resources and therefore would not have been able to meet carriers’ standard requirements for their smartphone to pass a certification process that requires certain software features.

“When you make a smartphone for the US, you have to work with certifiers and adapt some of its features to your operating system.“, he said. “Previously, we did not have the resources for this, but now we do.“, adds Pei. Previously, the company had a team of just five engineers working on its operating system, today more than 100 people work on it. In total, Nothing has grown from 200 employees in 2021 to 400 now.

In his interview, he cites polls that show consumers in North America are already fed up with Apple and Samsung. He hopes that, like Motorola and one plusNothing will be an alternative and will soon enter the fray.
