From the creator of Gmail: ChatGPT can “destroy” Google in two years

ChatGPT has potential “destroy” Google in a year or two at mostsays the creator of Gmail in a tweet which causes a lot of discussion. Paul Buccheit believes this botchat will kill Google’s most lucrative product, its search engine. Moreover, even if the Internet giant somehow catches up with artificial intelligence, “You couldn’t fully implement it without destroying the most valuable parts of your business”.

ChatGPT is a chatbot that has been all the rage since it hit the general public last November. You already know it. It’s basically a prototype chatbot that uses AI to understand text and then react to it. But the real advantage is that it’s designed for natural conversation, a section long considered Google’s strength.

Internet gossip says that this chatbot is gaining huge popularity sounded the alarm at Mountain View Barracks. And let’s not forget that Microsoft is investing a million dollars in the company behind this development, OpenAI. CEO Sundar Pichai has issued a “code red” for development teams to speed up AI projects at Google.

The New York Times recently reported that Google is planning “showcase your search engine’s capabilities this year with chatbot features” and is evolving more than 20 artificial intelligence products apparently to counter ChatGPT. More details are expected to be revealed during the upcoming Google I/O 2023 developer conference.

The problem is serious. “Google can be fair one or two years of total disruption. AI will remove the search engine results page where they make most of their income.”describes the creator of Gmail and adds that “even if they catch up with AI, they can’t fully implement it without destroying the most valuable part of their business”.

We will see what happens. ChatGPT is currently available for free. Although the paid Pro version is already running, they are still interested in keeping as many users as possible, because the natural language processing model is still in the “learning” phase, and each interaction contributes to the improvement of the neural network on which it works, which is considered the largest known with 175 billion parameters. Even with many bugs, ChatGPT continues and will continue to become more and more intelligent in its use because it uses reinforcement learning with human feedback (RLHF).

Its extent is truly unknownbut the power of someone like the creator of Gmail is to be considered.
