The Samsung T7 Shield is one of our favorite portable SSDs, but it was launched with storage capacities that may be a little short for some users. The company is now addressing this with a new version Capacity 4 TByte.
SSD drives absolutely dominate the internal storage of client computers, but they are also increasingly used in external solutions, where they still show their great advantages over hard drives. The original Samsung T7 SSD and its “Touch” edition were a good example. Based on this, Samsung launched a “Shield” variant that indicated where the shots were going.
The drive adds everything we could ask for in a modern portable storage drive: performance, durability, safety and maximum mobility for carrying in your pocket, because despite its durable chassis with IP65 certification against dust, water and falls from up to 3 meters about the size of a credit card and weighs less than 100 g.
For external connections, Samsung offers a USB Type-C port and adds a USB Type-C to Type-C cable as well as an additional USB Type-C to Type A cable to increase device compatibility with earlier versions of the standard. Internally, the port uses USB 3.2 Gen 2 and supports the NVMe interface for high speed with read mode data transfers of up to 1,050 Mbytes per second.
In addition to external durability, your safety is also enhanced hardware encryption (256-bit AES), so consumer data can be safely protected even in the event of disk loss. It is officially compatible with Windows, Mac and Android, although it should also work with others such as Linux and iOS. The manufacturer provides the control software “Magician” and an application that allows you to move the operating system and data from the old SSD for free.
The new 4TB version of the Samsung T7 Shield is now available in selected markets in beige, grey, pink, black and blue and at the official price 429 dollars. This drive from Samsung is very good, although there are other excellent alternatives, such as the SanDisk Extreme SSD, which we reviewed a while ago, which are priced even lower.
If you don’t need that much capacity, you can save a good amount by opting for the 1 or 2 Tbyte versions, which you can buy at a discount from some retailers in Spain. from 147 euros.
