Intel has shown that it plans to use the new GP2 DG2 for other purposes, although it can’t properly launch its graphics cards. The company introduced a series of Arctic Sound-M accelerators based on the same graphics processors that should be used in gaming solutions. Arctic Sound-M doesn’t just focus on games. These are rather unusual accelerators, as their task is to convert video. Intel itself calls these accelerators media supercomputers.
Arctic Sound-M supports up to eight simultaneous 4K streams or up to thirty 1080p streams. Therefore, Intel and other companies could potentially use such solutions, especially for game streaming services.
Let me remind you that the Intel GPU of the Arc family supports AV1 hardware encoding, which Intel advertised by showing Arctic Sound-M. As a result, using this codec reduces the load on the GPU by 30%. To be more precise, the bitrate was reduced from 64.7 Mbps using H.264 to 44.9 Mbps with AV1.
It is not yet known which GPU is used in Arctic Sound-M, whether there will be one or more models in the series, and when such accelerators will be released. The presence of an eight-pin power connector can be noted, so it is not the most basic configuration of the DG2. Source
