Dutch meteorologists said the Starlink equipment prevented them from predicting the weather. This was reported by the German publication T3N.
Journalists cited a report by Aad Stoffelen, an expert at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), who said the Starlink terminals prevented scientists from collecting weather data. According to Stofflen, the problem isn’t the satellites, it’s the ground equipment.
The expert complained that meteorological satellites could not make accurate observations due to temperature changes in places where Starlink terminals are installed. According to the expert, the plates placed on the ground heat up during operation, so small clouds of steam rise above the surface, but visible from satellites.
According to Ad Stoffelen, the presence of one of the satellites, Starlink, is especially visible in the North Pole, where the research stations are located. The expert said either Starlink will have to improve its equipment or scientists will have to remove the satellite dishes from the list of observation sites.
