As part of its carbon reduction target, the company aims to initially sell 2,000 units per year, then increase this number to 60,000 units in 2030.
Honda also hopes to sell “several hundred thousand” of these systems by the second half of the next decade.
The company said its fuel cell systems could be used to power not only passenger cars, but also commercial trucks, stationary power plants and construction equipment.
He said that although the need to build infrastructure for hydrogen fuel remains an issue, hydrogen fuel cells that generate electricity through a chemical reaction between oxygen and hydrogen without emitting carbon dioxide are touted as a solution to global warming.
