The Coalition is working on Gears 6, the next installment of one of the most famous and beloved franchises in the world of video games. As many of our readers will remember, this saga debuted on the Xbox 360 and quickly It became one of those “console salesman” titles which brought Microsoft’s machine to the top. I’m not exaggerating, this console was able to achieve almost a tie in sales with its generational rival, the PS3.

Over the years, the franchise has had moments of greater and lesser success, but ultimately what matters is that It has always remained the true benchmark within the genre. I have to say that I played all the parts on different platforms and I liked them all, although I also have to admit that I liked Gears V the least, despite being the most technically advanced.

That Gears 6 is in development is no surprise, after all it is one of the mainstays of Xbox and the guys at The Coalition, the surprise comes because we knew that the studio was immersed in the development of two other projectsand that’s why we didn’t expect to have an unofficial confirmation of the development of Gears 6 so soon.

That’s good news, no doubt about it, but unfortunately we have bad news, and that’s all The coalition would cancel these two projects in which he worked to focus only on the development of Gears 6. This has an explanation, and as you may have guessed, it is deeply connected to the 10,000 layoffs that Microsoft recently made, which affected various studios and companies in the company.

The information we have about Gears 6 is still somewhat sparse, but we do know that it will be based on Unreal Engine 5 and that it will be exclusive to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC. Since Gears 5 used “global screen space lighting” with up to 32 rays in its Xbox One X and PC version, it’s likely that we’ll see the implementation of true hardware-accelerated ray tracing in the next installment.

We don’t know the launch date, but this factory maintains a four-year renewal cycle, so a priori everything indicates that Gears 6 could arrive between 2023 and 2024as Gears of War 4 and Gears 5 arrived in 2015 and 2019 respectively.
