If you’re tired of the videos TikTok offers on its Recommendations page, or if you don’t like the way the algorithms work, there may be a way to do a full reset soon.

According to spokesperson Jamie Favazza, the company is testing a new feature called “Update”.

• After clicking the application will start relearning your interests based on what you view, what posts you respond to et cetera.
• This feature can be useful if your feed has too much of the same type of content or if unwanted content has gotten there.
• The test, which will start in the coming days, will be available to a small number of users for now.

How the recommendations page works has been the subject of multiple debates, especially given how secret the company keeps its algorithm. Back in January, with a major scandal, the world learned that service moderators can manually “viralize” this or that video and promote it to users’ streams. Internally, this is called a “warm-up”.

On the other hand, the company sometimes adds functions designed to provide users with more information about the algorithm that controls the operation of the service:

• In December, TikTok announced that users will soon be able to see why a particular video was recommended.
• In early 2022, the company also rolled out more advanced content filtering settings so users can specify that they don’t want to see videos with certain hashtags or keywords.
