Google to hold an event on February 8, artificial intelligence in sight?

When we talk about Google Events, everyone tends to think of the traditional Google I/O, dedicated primarily to developers, but also has very interesting announcements for the general public. They have also occasionally held an additional presentation, but unlike other technology companies that have a tighter schedule in this regard, those from search engines do not usually flaunt events of this type.

So when they plan an event, we can already assume that announcing it will be pretty important. And in this case, even more so, because it seems that it will focus on some of the most used services of the company, such as the search engine and maps, perhaps the two most used worldwide. So two services where any change can be most relevant to hundreds of millions of people, and therefore something worth paying close attention to.

An event called Live from Paris, will take place on Wednesday, February 8 at 14:30 CET (Spanish Peninsular Time, 1:30 p.m. in the Canary Islands) and will take place in Paris, although given the short time it was announced for, it appears that it will be an online-only event. The choice of Paris may simply be a response to the fascination the French capital has held for Americans for decades, or perhaps to the fact that at least some of the ads are exclusively or primarily European. You can see the Google event, as it could be otherwise, from the official Google YouTube channel.

And what will Google announce next Wednesday? Officially, the search engine did not say anything about it, but just yesterday Sundar Pichai, the CEO of the company, attended the presentation of the financial results and, as is usual at this type of event, in addition to the numbers, there was talk about future plans, among which Pichai focused on implementing a chatbot based on artificial intelligenceno doubt in response to ChatGPT and especially Microsoft’s plans to integrate it with Bing.

«We will make these language models available, starting with LaMDA [Language Model for Dialogue Applications, una familia de modelos de lenguaje neuronal conversacional desarrollado por Google]so that people can interact with them directly in the coming weeks and months“, he declared at the said meeting and that he is talking about its implementation in a matter of weeks, invites us to think that the plans have advanced. And it is because we have already told you that the original intention was to present these innovations at Google I/O 2023, but some sources indicate that the proposal from Microsoft and OpenAI is already quite advanced and therefore Google cannot afford to wait May.

And although nothing is certain, it is possible that as early as next week we will be able to see a chatbot integrated into the web browser for the first time, and on the contrary, it is quite likely that this will lead Microsoft to step even further and throttle its own plans. Therefore, it seems that we are facing a spring in which Searching for information on the Internet will begin to change radicallywith all the good and bad that comes with it.
