This week, the Chinese company Origin Quantum announced the release of Wuyuan commercial quantum computer. According to the South China Morning Post, the machine is equipped with its own software and has 24 qubits. At the moment, there are no more details about the QPUs used in the machine, but the portal claimed that the quantum computer will already be in use from 2021, and the company should soon introduce an even more powerful computer.
The South China Morning Post claims that Origin Quantum has developed its own operating system, a cloud computing software and platform that provides Wuyuan remote sharing. So far, the company has not disclosed to which customer it sent the quantum computer, but if the information that it has been in use since 2021 is correct, the computer has been using its computing power for some time.

Origin Quantum runs on a more powerful Wukong computer
Origin Quantum calls Wuyuan “the first practical quantum computer” in China. In addition, they claim to be developing an even more powerful computer, the Wukong. According to the South China Morning Post, Wukong will be ready “very soon”. There is no further information about the capacity of the Wukong, but it should not come close to the IBM Osprey at 433 qubits.
Either way, this news puts China in the race for quantum computing, and even though it’s trailing IBM, it should put a new flea in the ears of US rulers. Interestingly, several Chinese quantum computing companies are already on the US block list, and Origin Quantum is one of those not on the list. With Wuyuan and Wukong exposed, perhaps the company will also join this list, especially if Wuyuan was sold with any of the companies that worry the American rulers.
