At the end of 2022, which we have left behind, the cryptocurrency exchange FTX had a liquidity crisis, which upset the markets and eventually declared bankruptcy. Then the company’s CEO, Sam Bankman-Fried, applied for his resignation and was charged.
Before the company went bankrupt and Bankman had no such lawsuits, he funded an artificial intelligence company called Anthropic. Of course, when FTX and Bankman left, so did the financing. However, in a shocking development, Google announced that it is the new financier of Anthropic.
Google invests $300 million in artificial intelligence company Anthropic
The amount of USD 300 million was announced on February 22 by the Financial Times. Anthropic did not disclose any figures, but confirmed its investment partnership with Google Cloud the same day. The company has raised a total of $580 million to date, not including Google’s fund. 530 million of this money was provided by former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried.
The reason why Google invested in Anthropic seems to be Anthropic’s development and training of ‘Claude’, the ChatGPT-like artificial intelligence that Google wants to develop. Therefore, more investments can be made in the future.
According to the Financial Times, Google Cloud bought about 10% of Anthropic’s shares. What do you think? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments.
