Apple has reached an impressive milestone in the number of active users of its hardware devices, including iPhone, iPad, Mac and other products. The company now has 2 billion active devices, showing its rapid growth. For comparison, in 2016 the number of active devices in large technologies reached only 1 billion, and at the beginning of 2020 – 1.5 billion.
The feature will be exclusive to the most premium iPhone models until at least 2025.
The information came as part of the disclosure of results for the first quarter of 2023 ending December 31 last year.
“We reached a milestone during the December quarter and are pleased to announce that we now have over 2 billion active devices as part of our growing installed base.Apple CEO Tim Cook said.
According to Google’s 2021 reports, Apple’s active device base, including iOS, macOS, and others, is comparable to Android’s sizable base of 3 billion active devices. However, it is important to note that Google defines Android device assets, such as those that have access to the Google Play store. So the actual number of Android devices could be even higher, including phones from China that don’t have access to this app store.
Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Luca Maestri also noted that this base has increased “by about double digits” in emerging markets. As analyst Neil Cybart noted, this means that more users are moving from Android to iOS.
Apple has just released its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2023, which ended December 31, 2022. In line with expectations, the company’s revenue was $117.2 billion (-5%) and profit was $30 billion (-13%). and earnings per diluted share of $1.88 (-10%).
These results are comparable to the first quarter FY 2022 figures of $123.9 billion, $34.6 billion and $2.10 billion, respectively. Importantly, this is Apple’s first annual revenue decline since 2019.
