It was announced Google that next Tuesday (7) your browser, chromiumwill receive an update that activates video scaling.

This new resource will be made possible by NVIDIA Super Resolution RTX Video and will provide a higher resolution than the original video being played.

NVIDIA RTX Super Resolution Video in Chrome

Landing on version 110 of Chrome, scaling video for browsers is like Supersampling for deep learning (DLSS), which are applied to games and improve the quality of resolution using AI with proprietary technology from NVIDIA.

This feature will apply to the Google browser and has been shown in CES 2023, last month, and just like DLSS in electronic games, it can upscale video resolution from 1440p to 4K, for example. Similar technologies already exist, but RTX 30 and 40 series GPUs along with deep learning from NVIDIA intend to use the best of this feature to date. Watch it on video:

As you can see from the video, in the game Apex Legends images are recorded in 1080p using H.264 at a bit rate of 8 Mbps. Nvidia shows the contrast between 1080p and 4K resolutions with AI upscaling and focuses on the details of the game. The RTX Video Super Resolution feature will also support video up to 144Hz.

In the example provided by NVIDIA, we have a video game, but for sure extreme sports videos, using drones and GoPro, or even wildlife and nature documentaries will benefit a lot from this new feature, in addition to video streaming services – at least measure for users.

As we said above, the Chrome 110 update will be released on February 7th and this will be one of the features that will come along with it. There will likely also be an update for NVIDIA GPUs this week. So far there is no information about when other browsers – other than Microsoft Edge -, How fire fox This opera gx will implement the function.
