Tim Millet, vice president of chip platform architecture at the Cupertino-based giant, and Bob Borchers, vice president of product marketing, spoke about the latest chipset in an interview with TechCrunch. During the interview, Apple executives discussed the company’s silicon and its future. Representatives also talked about how technological developments are affecting consumers and where the chips are planned to go.
Folks also revealed that the iPad Pro was instrumental in the brand’s decision to switch its Mac lineup to the M1 chip lineup. He also added that Apple wants to push the boundaries with its M1 successor. The company had previously partnered with Intel to provide a line of computers. However, the company eventually decided to abandon its chip supplier and adopted its own proprietary silicon.
“The M2 family really aimed to maintain this leadership position by pushing the boundaries of technology. We don’t leave anything on the table. We do not think about how we can take a 20 percent raise and spread it over three years, how we can make additional profit. We get them all in one year; We just hit it really hard. That’s not what’s happened with the rest of the industry or historically.”
