We already have a new actor with Poe, albeit one a bit different from the rest of the ones we’ve seen so far, adding to the ever-growing general chatbot market. But it is true that Poe has not been completely new since then Quorathe popular online question-and-answer platform introduced it late last year, although until now it was necessary to have an invitation to try it out.
Now, probably due to the increase in speed that this market is experiencing, Quora has decided to end the need for invitations, and that’s why make it available to all users who want to try it out. Of course, in what we can consider to be quite intelligent, this universal availability could be placed in quotation marks, since currently Poe is only accessible from his application, which For now, it’s only available for iOSAndroid and desktop users will have to wait.
Unlike what we expect to happen in other cases, especially in search engines for obvious reasons, Quora has decided to segregate Poe so that we will have to use a specific application instead of Quora’s to access this service. In this regard, the official statement released by the company states that it has “decided to release Poe as a separate product that is separate from Quora due to the speed at which AI changes and evolves. However, there will be some connections between the Q&A page and Poem«.
And what does it mean? We will understand this much better if we continue to read the statement: «if Poe’s content meets a high enough standard of quality, it will be distributed on Quora, where it has the ability to reach Quora’s 400 million monthly visitors.«.
Quora has always excelled in the quality of its answers., i.e. those given by service users themselves to questions posed by the community. Unlike other similar services, such as the now defunct Yahoo! Answers that ended up being a repository of absurd humor, in this case we can read questions, answers and threads of truly enriching conversations. Personally, I have been a (passive) user for a long time and I always find interesting content there.
The company is aware of this and that’s why they don’t want to compromise the user experience of the platform, considering the quality of the answers, in the hypothetical case that Poe is unable to generate answers that match what the community expects. So this, in my opinion, is the real reason why neither Poe is accessible from Quora nor Quora is accessible from Poe at the moment. What’s more, we can’t even use our Quora credentials to log into Poe.
Regarding its technological base, I first defined it as a chatbot of chatbots, because unlike other AIs of this type that we have come across in recent months, Poe allows users to ask questions and get answers from various AI chatbots. In this regard, for now we can choose between Sage and Dragonfly (both powered by OpenAI) and Claude (powered by Anthropic). The chatbot selector shows that there are more bots in development, so we’ll see this list grow.
This morning we talked about ERNIE, the Baidu chatbot that will debut next month, yesterday about Bard, the chatbot with which Google wants to enter ChatGPT, and very likely, within a few hours, we will also have news from Microsoft (and, of course, you about we will tell them)… Looks like 2023 will be the year of chatbots, right?
