It was known that M.Microsoft has also been working on implementing OpenAI technology into several of its products.. The company itself confirmed its inclusion in Microsoft Teams, and various rumors and leaks already told us that the bet was much wider. Of all the plans, and the one that generated the most interest from the start, was the inclusion of the technology in Bing, the company’s web search engine, in a movement called to revolutionize web search as we know it. and to this day.

As you may remember, just yesterday Google announced Bard, its answer to ChatGPT, and today we learned about Baidu and Quora’s chatbots, ERNIE and Poe, one announced in March and the other already open to everyone. This weekend it was learned that Microsoft is conducting public testing of the new Bing with OpenAI technology. As we predicted a few weeks ago, tAll the tech companies stepped on the gas in response to the revolution brought about by the OpenAI chatbot.

Well, you know what happened yesterday, shortly after Bard’s Google blog post? Well, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, posted a photo in which he appears with Satya Nadella at the Microsoft offices, while those from Redmond announced an event that will take place today at 19:00 Spanish time. Just one day before Google Live From Paris, in which we learn more about the Bard. The speed of action and reaction of technology companies in this case is still worthy of study. So this press event, which was strangely not publicly broadcast, just happened and We already know what ambitious and very interesting plans Microsoft has.

In a presentation attended by both Nadella and Altman, we finally got an official confirmation of the future of Microsoft’s design with regards to searching the Internet, although we’ll have to wait and see how well it works. According to the response of the competition, it seems that the company is once again proposing an ambitious movement in this regard, which should be a pioneer in innovation, because integrates OpenIA technology into both Bing and Microsoft Edge.

The first of the two integrations doesn’t surprise us, we’ve been talking about it for weeks and as we expected, currently based on GPT 3.5an interim version in development of the future text-generating AI GPT 4, which will differ from both its predecessors and ChatGPT by being able to offer responses much faster than the company’s current models provide.

This point, as we have mentioned on other occasions, is critical if you want to integrate AI-generated answers into online information search engines, in this case Bing, where the user always wants to get a virtually immediate answer, because that is what you are already looking for web browsers used to.

One of the statements we could hear during the presentation is this Prometheus, which is the name of the generative model that Bing will useit will be much more «strong» than ChatGPT, moreover, it was specifically designed for integration into the context of searching for information on the Internet. Microsoft says the benefits of the new Bing with Prometheus include more relevant search results, and that the model will make using Bing safer and allow the company to update search results faster.

Regarding its functioning, it confirms what the images we could see a few days ago told us. new bing It will show a larger search bar than the current one, in which we can write queries up to a thousand characters long of any subject and formulated in natural language. In the presentation, Yusuf Mehdi, the company’s director of consumer marketing, asked some of the most diverse questions, from the most influential Mexican artists to information about vacuum cleaners. In all cases, the answer will be displayed in a sidebar that will also display annotations and web links next to it that we are aware will be at least part of the resources used to formulate the answer.

At this point, you’re probably wondering when you’ll be able to try it out, right? The truth is, you won’t have to wait any longer Microsoft has announced that a limited version (only allows you to perform certain queries) of Bing with Prometheus is now available to everyone.. You’ll only have access (from Edge, yes) to bing.com, and at that point you’ll be able to see for yourself and test the future of search engines not only for Microsoft, but for the entire industry. In addition, the company has also enabled a waiting list for all users who want to try the full version. The aim is that the full version «be available to millions of users in the next few weeks«.

Of course, Microsoft wanted Bing’s debut with Prometheus to take place in its own browser, but when asked by reporters, the company confirmed the obvious, ie. which also reach other browsers. And I say obvious because imposing a restriction of this type would be counterproductive at best if they want to increase the share of Bing users.

And also Microsoft Edge

Everything related to Bing matches what was expected, but the big surprise came when we learned AI will also come to Microsoft Edge, and that it will also start from today. And how? Because with a sidebar that we can call up at any time and that in addition to allowing us to ask questions, or it can be very practical to get information related to what we are doing at that moment, You will also be able to work with the content displayed in the browser.

So, for example, if we are on a website where we want to write something, we can ask Prometheus to help us with this task, and the same if we want it to analyze the content displayed on it, such as a presentation, study or report, to have created a summary of them that we can view quickly and conveniently. Thus, the artificial intelligence will not only use the knowledge acquired during learning, it will also be able to use the information specified by us to create personalized content.

In other words, Microsoft Edge with Prometheus will be able to “understand” the web page you have open and through this you will be able to tell us what is in it. In some contexts this doesn’t make much sense, but in others, such as highly technical or scientific publications in areas of knowledge that are not our specialty, it can be a formidable aid in overcoming this barrier.

With this move, Microsoft played an unexpected and very clever trick.because if Bing is going to fight against Google’s search engine, browsers are now joining the bet, another market in which Google has absolute primacy, but in which Edge is gaining ground and, above all, is very positively evaluated by the growing number of users.
