Iran uncovers Oqab 44 underground airbase

Iran’s underground airbase, Oqab 44 (Eagle 44), has received and operated various types of fighters and bombers, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles. This was reported by the Iranian state news agency IRNA. In the published photos, there are at least 5 planes in the hangars. It is not known how many equipment can be placed on such a base.

There are command posts, aircraft maintenance facilities, as well as fuel storage locations.

Published footage of the airbase’s opening ceremony shows the F-4 Phantom II fighter jet taking off. Judging by the video, planes have to taxi to an unprotected runway to perform combat missions.

It is emphasized that the airbase is one of the few underground facilities of this type built in recent years for the needs of the Iranian Air Force.

Bases with high security coefficients built under the mountains in various places facilitate sudden air operations from an unexpected place at an unexpected time.“, the message says.

It will be remembered that Iran confirmed the information that it bought Su-35 fighter jets from Russia in January of this year. They will be delivered to the country after March 21, 2023. Russia will also supply Iran with helicopters, missiles and air defense systems.
