The latest solution from the compact PC manufacturer, the Minisforum NUCG5 comes refreshed inside and out for both commercial and consumer desktop use.
Worldwide desktop sales continue to decline compared to notebooks, but there is a segment in between that is still rising, the mini-PC segment, for which we have a new release every week. And its advantages are interesting.
The manufacturer chose carbon fiber for the chassis of this version. The use of this premium material is unusual and offers pluses in lightness, durability and aesthetics.
Its dimensions maintain the reduced form factor of this type of solution, 109 x 110 x 61 mm, and it has ports on the front and back, where two external antennas stand out for wireless connection. It has VESA support for installation on the wall or behind monitors.
The inside was also renovated with twelfth generation Intel processors, specifically with a Core i5-1240P with 12 cores and 16 threads, working frequencies of 4.4 GHz and 12 MB cache. Its integrated graphics is Intel Iris Xe capable of displaying content on up to three screens simultaneously.
It includes two SO-DIMM slots for installing up to 64GB of DDR4-3200MHz memory, and for storage it offers a PCIe SSD and a 2.5-inch bay for expansion based on the hard drives or hard drives you still have.
Its connectivity is at a high level. It supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 and has a good number of ports starting with two Thunderbolt 4, as well as USB 3.2 and 2.0, dual HDMI output, Ethernet LAN and 3.5 mm audio jack.
The NUCG5 Minisforum comes pre-installed with Windows 11 Pro and will be available next month in various configurations. With 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD, its price is 579 dollars. We don’t know if the manufacturer will launch barebones versions that are interesting for users who want to use their own memory and storage solutions or change the operating system using a GNU/Linux distribution, which is also supported.
