ASUS is the world’s number one seller of gaming laptops, and considering what it has to offer, no one can be surprised. The refresh for 2023 is underway, and this week we had the opportunity to offer you a very complete analysis of one of the updated models, the ROG Zephyrus M16. Now comes an even more impressive lineup in terms of performance, the ASUS ROG Strix 2023, which wins the category “TPNET Awards 2022 Best Gaming Laptop”.
The general idea behind these large laptops is to offer enough capacity replace desktop machines when performing video games, the most demanding task in consumption. To achieve this, ASUS has refreshed its stellar lineup inside and out with 13th Gen Intel Core processors (AMD Ryzen 7000 on some models) and dedicated graphics. NVIDIA RTX 40 Mobile series.
One of the standout innovations on some of the models in the line is the screen, which the company calls “Nebula”, which presents modern Mini-LED panels with HDR, up to 1,100 nits of maximum brightness and up to 1,024 dimming zones. All are equipped with NVIDIA Advanced Optimus technology.
Another restored section was the section cooling. And it is the increase in performance and increasingly stylized designs that force its improvement, and ASUS uses liquid metal as a thermal compound, along with a cooling system with seven heat pipes, a full-width radiator and a vapor chamber.
Top of the range, like the ones we’re reviewing in this post, will have up to three fans and integrated filters to keep dust and lint out. The company has also incorporated vents for better airflow. Additionally, when the CPU and GPU temperature is below 50/60 degrees Celsius, the system turns off all fans and offers a 0dB ambient cooling solution.
The Strix series has remained the performance flagship within the elite division notebooks Republic of Gamers. ASUS renewed the entire range, but released a unique model that has an 18-inch screen the laptop every gamer dreams of replace table tops. Of course, aside from gaming, they have enough capacity for all computing uses, including workstations, simply by changing the NVIDIA drivers from Gaming drivers to Studio drivers for professional applications.
The redesign of the said chassis, which adapts to the largest screens, made it possible to mount the screens 16 and 18 inches with a 16:10 aspect ratio and several panels to choose from up to an impressive nebula Mini-LED technologyQHD+ resolution, PANTONE Verified with 100% DCI-P3 color gamut support, HDR 1100, Dolby Vision and G-Sync gaming support, sub 3ms response time and like all screens in the range 240Hz refresh rate.
ASUS is installed inside top performance, a new generation of Intel processors up to Core i9-13900H and dedicated graphics up to NVIDIA RTX 4090, the most powerful on the market. You can install up to 64 GB of DDR5 4800 MHz memory and 4 TB of storage with a PCIe 4.0 SSD.
As we said above, the manufacturer has improved the cooling performance of these new chassis, allowing more space for the CPU and GPU to increase the maximum frame rate. They are now equipped with an extra strong full-width cooler, Tri-Fan technology and liquid metal for more efficient waste heat removal.
Its connectivity is up to par, among others with Thunderbolt 4, USB 3.2 ports, HDMI 2.1 output, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. Its keyboard is a backlit chiclet and the audio system includes four speakers with Dolby Atmos. It includes a power adapter of up to 90 Wh and we must highlight the manufacturer’s care in controlling the weight of these notebooks, which, without being ultra-light, can be transported anywhere with a weight of 3.1 and 2.5 kg.
The Scar 16 is now available in select markets for pre-order starting at $2,899, while the Scar 18 starts at $3,699. They aren’t cheap, but in return you get one of the best series of laptops for gaming and everything you need. It shouldn’t take long to arrive in Spain on the ASUS website.
Variant of the previous ones with some “reduced” components. And we put it in quotes because its potential is huge. The screens can be IPS or LCD, QHD and with a refresh rate of 240Hz, while the processor remains up to Core i9-13900H, graphics up to RTX 4080, 32 GB RAM and 2 TB SSD. Surplus for many consumers and at a much lower price from $1,999. In some regions, they are already available at the pre-order stage.
This model has not yet been launched, but it has been announced and will be of interest to those who bet on AMD CPUs. It will fit Ryzen 9 Zen 4 processors and NVIDIA graphics up to 4090. It will be able to fit up to 64 GB of DDR5 memory at 4800 MHz and 2 Tbytes for storage with SSD. Its screen offers a single 17-inch IPS panel with QHD (2560 x 1440 pixels), 240 Hz / 3 ms, DCI-P3 100%, with G-SYNC and Dolby Vision. Connectivity is as complete as before with the exception of Thunderbolt 4 reserved for the Intel platform.
