If there’s one thing we all agree on, it’s that viruses can be a real problem. A new feature found in the Developer Preview (DP1) of Android 14 seems to imply that Google may give us a tool to help us get rid of viruses.
Google has released Android 14 DP1 to allow developers and the general public to test the waters before its official release. Pixel phone owners, from Pixel 4a 5G to Pixel 7 Pro, can download the Android 14 preview right now.
According to the report XDA Developers, the menu appears to be hidden in the operating system. This menu is called “Background installed programs”. The menu appears to be in an alternate version of the settings called “Spa”. To access the spa, you reportedly need to flip the two hidden developer flags for it to appear.
This menu is said to use the Background Loading Control feature to monitor apps that are loaded in the background. All apps downloaded in the background are listed in this menu. You can then navigate through the menu to uninstall apps you don’t need.
The service is believed to have appeared on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), a repository of Android open source operating system development projects, a few months ago. With such a feature, it will be much easier to find and get rid of malware that weighs on your device. This can be especially helpful for the Samsung Galaxy S23, which seems to be plagued by viruses.
