1Password will launch the feature next summer «Access Keys», eliminates the need to remember the master password and increasing user safety in all areas. Ironically, the future of 1Password, and surely the future of all other password managers, will be passwordless authentication.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve had enough of passwords. It’s a terrible method in usability (even in security, if you don’t care about them) that we have been swallowing for decades. To mitigate it, many of us use password managers (there are very good ones, free and open source), it can make our digital life easier and avoid human errors that we will continue
1Password, like other managers, stores, encrypts and auto-populates credentials, requiring a single master password to be remembered to unlock its operation. The goal is to get rid of even these master passwords thanks to Passkeys technology. It must be said that it was developed by the FIDO alliance, which includes big tech companies like Google, Apple and Microsoft, so we expect it to become commonplace in the coming years. Of course, its implementation may differ from provider to provider.
1Password Passwords
Get rid of master passwords speed up the process 1Login using a password and with it also authentication in dozens of services and applications that we use every day. Access keys will use advanced public key cryptography to verify the identity of users. Instead of remembering and entering passwords, devices will generate unique keys for each app and website. These access keys can only be used after identity verification using biometric methods, such as Face ID or Windows Hello, fingerprint sensors or scanning a QR code with a smartphone.
More agile and safer. Cybercrime is rampant and password theft is commonplace. Even password managers (theoretically safe) like LastPass are not spared, which was not only hacked, but the management of the attack was, because it was soft, not very transparent.
1Password Password will be released next summer and you can check out its main features and how it works on its blog. Interesting to say goodbye to passwords forever.
