Opera will include ChatGPT in its sidebar

Opera users have always known this this browser is a constant source of innovationand for those in charge to have a constant focus on users and usability. I still remember the first time I tried a tabbed browser, which of course was Opera, before its other competitors added this feature, which has since become essential for this type of software, making the leap to many other classes of applications over time. There are more examples, but I think this one perfectly illustrates what I mean.

So, It is surprising that the vast majority of users do not know it. It’s true that the launch of Opera GX and its numerous promotional campaigns that many relevant YouTubers have made known to their followers has caused some growth in its adoption, but even so, its market share is still very, very low. below what, at least in my opinion, it should have on its own. But then again, you’re up against tech giants, so your chances are pretty limited.

However, this does not deter those responsible keep exploring the options and of course also observe what their competition is doing, if they deem it necessary, try adding it to your own browser. And that is exactly the case with this opportunity. As you may remember, just a few days ago Microsoft announced the addition of OpenAI technology to both Bing and Microsoft Edge. The first was more than expected, but the second was a surprising effort and a major coup on the part of Redmond, which must have been felt especially strongly in the Google offices, but also felt in the rest of the sector.

We all expected Google’s reaction regarding Chrome, but it turns out that Opera has progressed since then, as we can read on its official blog, Opera has announced the inclusion of ChatGPT in the browser sidebar. The feature isn’t available yet, but the companies have released a video showing how it works, and they say it will be rolling out very soon.

In the first implementation of OpenAI technology, ChatGPT will analyze, if requested, the content of the web page we are viewing and offer us a summary of it in response. If you’ve been wondering, you’re right, yes this is one of the features announced by Microsoft for Edge. However, according to the company, this is only the first step, as Opera would already be working on new OpenAI artificial intelligence applications.
