Bad news has become a constant in the Twitter offices during the last months, more specifically since the arrival of Elon Musk in the direction of the social network. To be honest, we can’t blame the billionaire for all of Twitter’s ills, as its accounts, for example, were truly terrible under the previous management team. However, it is also indisputable that his more than peculiar style of management and communication had and is having truly disturbing effects.

Neither freedom of speech nor anything, his leadership made it clear from the first minute the only thing that really worries him is profitability. Be careful, it’s understandable, because he made a huge investment to gain control of Twitter, and as we already pointed out here at the beginning of the whole soap opera about the purchase, the effects of the said operation did not go unnoticed. Musk’s account, which in a few months from that moment would have to start paying repayments and interest on the loans and credits obtained to finance the purchase.

So we saw how it focused on Twitter Blue, with the intention of increasing the number of subscribers to this payment method, closed free access to the Twitter API, which can have very negative consequences for researchers, laid off more than half of the workforce, even stopped paying rent for its offices , she auctioned off items from them… it’s hard to imagine what else she could try to do to improve her income.

The problem, of course, is that some of these measures, such as stopping rent payments and auctioning off office furniture, or of course letting go of much of the moderation team that has worked for years to keep the social network as free as possible of hateful content and the like, These are the things that advertisers don’t like.which form an essential part of social network accounts.

So a few weeks ago we already had the first news about the impact of Elon Musk’s policies on Twitter advertisers, and as we told you at the time, the data was not good at all. And now, as we can read in Gizchina, things seem to be getting worse since then Twitter would lose about 65% of its top 1000 advertisers in September 2022. Specifically, out of a thousand brands and companies that used the social network’s advertising services at the time, 625 no longer do so.

But the situation is even worse because some of them the companies that remain have substantially reduced their investments in advertising, something that of course cannot be blamed only on Twitter’s policy, but also on what it has been able to influence. For example, the article mentions that HBO Max’s investment in advertising through the social network was $12 million in September, but was reduced to $54,000 in January.
