Last month we celebrated the 15th anniversary of the MacBook Air. During this time, Apple managed to make it one of the best-selling laptops and a reference when it comes to designing thin and light laptops. We will soon have news with the MacBook Air 2023, which if the predictions come true, they will extremely interesting.

The latest comes from Ross Young, a display analyst with a good record of what’s going on at Cupertino HQ. The analyst says he has information about the production chain in Asia and in “start of serial production” the new 15.5-inch screens that the next Air will debut on.

Young said he expects the MacBook Air to launch in 2023 “in April”. The date coincides with the company celebrating a spring product launch event, as we saw in March 2022 and April 2021.

The MacBook Air 2023 will get bigger

All the rumors suggest that the new Air will be the biggest one made by Apple to date. If Apple has produced a series in sizes 12 and 13 inches so far, the next one would use the commented one 15.5 inch display diagonally.

Although it may not be as light as the current ones, it is expected that Apple will be able to maintain the thickness and keep the weight at low values that characterized the series. In return, the user will see a significant jump in visibility and certainly improving connectivity. Also lower prices, because it will be a great option to avoid having to jump to the -expensive – 16-inch MacBook Pro, which cannot be bought in Spain for less than 3,000 euros. In terms of panel technology, Apple would use IPS (Retina) to keep the price down.

Another interesting thing about this Air would be its main hardware engine. The current model was one of those updated with the M2 SoC, but another one is already on the way. It is about Apple M3 which – according to information – is already produced by the TSMC foundry. From it we can expect higher performance, lower consumption and greater integration with its 3 nm, the most advanced manufacturing process for PC processors in the industry. It’s unclear if the M3 chips would arrive in time to power the MacBook Air 2023, but it would be another novelty that would make them even more attractive.

The increase in size would allow Apple to include some other ports on two Thunderbolt/USB 4 Air 13 and by the way place them on the other side of the laptop for greater user comfort. It could also increase the size of the Magic Keyboard and Force Touch Trackpad. No changes are expected for the rest of the components, an audio system with four speakers and Dolby Atmos support, a FaceTime camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack and support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5. The battery capacity, yes, would have to increase if Apple wanted maintain the MacBook Air 13’s impressive 18 hours of battery life.

If this 2023 MacBook Air arrives with a 15-inch screen, M3 SoC and a modest price (always taking into account the premium to be paid for any Apple product), it will be of interest to many users.
