Internet Explorer is, for better or for worse, a key reference in the history of the Internet.. The first of Microsoft’s browsers was launched in August 1995, almost 28 years ago, with the intention of taking on its competitors in a nascent market. With its launch, one of the most interesting aspects of the Internet began to be written, which continues to this day, albeit under very different conditions: the browser wars.

About 20 years after its launch, in March 2015, the company introduced Microsoft Edge, a browser that was supposed to replace Internet Explorer, which had the latest version 11. However, the first-born of Microsoft’s browsers remained on many computers for many years after his “disappearance”, which was de facto not.

When we talk about compatibility, we mean first and foremost custom development for large companies as well as legacy applications that have not been refreshed over time and which for various reasons are only compatible with Internet Explorer. Calculated in 2023, this may sound strange, especially in a domestic environment, but the truth is that there is much more to the business world than meets the eye.

However, everything must come to an end. As we already told you in October of last year, Internet Explorer’s months were numbered, although it is true that Redmond’s are in everything and to avoid problems for their users, guaranteed the possibility of continuing to use their technology, like Internet Explorer, but in a more secure environment, at least for the next decade. And what will change then? Core elements of IE run as an instance of Microsoft Edge, providing a higher level of security and reliability.

Today was the day, the date chosen by the Redmonds, so Internet Explorer installations that are still “live” have been or will be disabled during the day. So if you’re stuck in Windows 10 (remember Windows 11 doesn’t include Internet Explorer) and you try to open the old browser, you’ll be greeted with a message saying it’s no longer possible, and then it crashes Microsoft Edge opens, in which, yes, you can again load the required tabs in Internet Explorer compatibility mode.
