Quantum computers use subatomic particles such as electrons and photons to process calculations much faster than a traditional computer. QuEra Computing, headquartered in Boston, USA, announced on Tuesday (14) the development of a new coding method that improves machine performance.

This is one of the greatest inventions in computing.
QuEra Computing is responsible for the atomically neutral Aquilla quantum computer. According to the company, the new method allows Aquilla to run more applications at the same time, improving performance. The previous coding method limited the class of tasks that could be solved, the company claims. “Arrays of Rydberg atoms naturally allow solving maximum independent set (MIS) problems, but native encodings are limited to so-called disk-unit graphs.”
However, the company claims that the limitations can be removed with the new coding method, although it does not explain how it works. “Now new classes of optimization problems can be solved using neutral atomic machines. This includes maximal independent sets on graphs with arbitrary connectivity and unrestricted binary-quadratic optimization (QUBO) problems with arbitrary or bounded connectivity.”
What will change with the new encoding
The complex terms that cite graph theories and their applications in quantum computing are difficult to understand, but can be simplified as follows: With a new encoding method, Aquilla can handle more applications at the same time..
According to QuEra Computing, due to its increased performance, Aquilla can be used to find new pharmaceutical products at an early stage of development, such as finding the optimal protein design among billions of possibilities. The computer could help researchers determine the best samples to test, reducing the resources needed to develop new types of drugs.
As many countries invest in quantum computing, Aquilla is available to researchers on Amazon Braket, a quantum computing service designed to accelerate scientific research. With the improved performance of the QuEra neutral quantum computer, it will be interesting to see how the increased power of the machine will help advance science.
