An international group of scientists has discovered a new Earth-size exoplanet, K2-415b, located 72 light-years from our planet.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Space.com.
K2-415b orbits the nearby red dwarf star K2-415. The exoplanet itself is extremely close to K2-415, so close that it only takes about four Earth days to complete its orbit around it.
According to preliminary estimates, the exoplanet is about three times larger than Earth, although its radius is only 1,015 times the radius of our planet.
Astronomers identified the exoplanet thanks to data from NASA’s now-defunct Kepler space telescope, the secondary K2 mission, and its successor, the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite.
Although K2-415b is not the closest known exoplanet to Earth, it has been noted to be one of our closest neighbors on a cosmic scale.
As Ukrinform reported, US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronomers announced that they have discovered a new Earth-sized planet.
The newly discovered planet, named TOI 700 e, is part of the TOI 700 system and is 95% the size of Earth and possibly rocky.
