Earlier this month apple received a patent calledObservation of the release mechanism“, which describes a method that allows Apple Watch users to access the camera located at the bottom of the device. The patent proposes a custom watch band with a quick release feature that allows the watch to be easily detached from the band, allowing the user to take pictures and record videos using the device’s rear camera.

Smartwatches will be used by surfers to track their performance in real time.
The patent even details an unlocking mechanism that can be activated with a button or other locking mechanism to keep the watch secure during use. When the user is finished using the camera, they simply place the watch back on the base of the bracelet and it locks into place.
This mechanism will allow you to remove the watch case from the fitting part without removing the entire strap from the device. In addition, the patent describes that the special bracelet will have a design that allows the watch case to be inserted from the side, which would guarantee the stability of the device during use.
Other patents along the way
The acquisition of a patent called “Observation Release Mechanism” is not the first time that Apple has filed a patent related to the inclusion of cameras in the Apple Watch. The company already filed another patent last year, simply titled “Camera Watch”, which describes a scenario where the camera would be placed inside the device’s digital crown. One of the diagrams presented in the patent is very similar to the one described in the current patent.
Back in 2019, Apple received a patent for a rotating camera built into the end of a pen. It’s worth noting that there’s already a third-party Apple Watch accessory called the Wristcam that works similar to what’s described in Apple’s latest patent. These initiatives reinforce the company’s interest in expanding the functionality of the Apple Watch and making it even more complete and versatile for its users.
