Anker has begun withdrawing the PowerCore 20K power banks from sale, recognizing that devices in this model can catch fire when overheated. This was reported by MacRumors.
According to the manufacturer’s statement, only the model with the code A1366 is subject to recall. Anker is currently working with government agencies in many countries to set up collection and disposal points for batteries. Only a small group of devices are claimed to pose a fire hazard. After returning the defective device, the affected consumer can request a refund on the Anker website.
MacRumors announced that Anker is recalling the PowerCore 20K shortly after a house in Maryland caught fire after an electronic device caught fire. It is thought that the fire started from the Anker brand powerbank, as there was no other device at the place where the fire started.
According to information on Anker’s website, the company accepts returns for the PowerCore 20K in the US, Germany, UK and France.
