In a blog post, Google announced that it will soon begin migrating reminders from the Calendar and Assistant apps to the Google Tasks app next month. The voluntary transition process will take place gradually from March 6 for personal account holders.
Now you’re probably wondering why the search giant did this. Its purpose is to make the Google Tasks app one place to manage all your Google tasks. First released in 2018, the Tasks app is already present in the sidebars of apps like Gmail, Docs, Calendar, and more. This means you don’t have to switch between tabs to access your to-do list or create a new task.
Users will be able to start the process with a request that Google will display in the Assistant and Calendar applications. However, the company added that in the second quarter it will automatically reschedule reminders for users who have not yet made it on their own.
For Google Workspace users with Tasks enabled, the process will begin on April 12, and Google will begin automatic migration on May 22. Stating that the transition will not happen for organizations that disable Tasks, the company said, “Removal of reminder data will begin after June 22, 2023.”
Note that reminders you create in Keep will not be migrated. However, after the transfer is complete, they no longer appear in the Calendar app. Changes to Google reminder migration apply to personal account users, all Google Workspace users, and older versions of G Suite.
