There is a new version of Vivaldi, the first of the year to be exact, and… contrary to what is usual, it comes with only a few minor innovations. Something really unusual, but as Jon von Tetzchner points out, “developing the most innovative features takes a significant amount of time”, so we’ll leave it at that.
Coming to the news about Vivaldi 5.7, the first of all is the update to the base that it provides Chrome 110 with all the background changes that come with it, mainly fixes, optimizations and security patches. This version also brings a significant number of fixes to Vivaldi’s own software for elements such as the address bar, calendar or email manager.
But if we talk about constant and resounding news, there are only two that form the core of this launch. The first of these and the most prominent concerns comprehensive management of windows on the panel. As you know, Vivaldi has a powerful sidebar through which you can access bookmarks, history, downloads and much more, because you can actually add websites and use them in “mobile” mode.
As for the default options, one of the most interesting is the ability to manage windows from there, including a dropdown tree with all recently opened and closed tabs. The only thing missing is display the contents of all open windowsand not just the active one, which is exactly what was implemented in Vivaldi 5.7.
So now you know: if, in addition to many cards, you are one of those who open many windows, this new option will come in handy so you don’t get lost in the crowd you’ve created yourself.
The second new feature of Vivaldi 5.7 similarly revolves around administration, in this case the integrated email client, which newly enables automatically mark messages as read, so they disappear from the “unread” filter, but remain in the received filter. It is a common option in other e-mail managers, which you can activate if you are interested in its corresponding section in the browser settings.
As a bonus, Vivaldi 5.7 added a new keyboard shortcut to quickly mark and/or unmark messages as spam: “J” or “Shift+J”, respectively; although you can modify it if you prefer a different combination.
And that’s all that comes with Vivaldi 5.7, a browser that just celebrated its eighth anniversary three weeks ago.
