NASA, the American Aeronautics and Space Administration, announced a new news about the Parker Solar Probe. One of the devices on the spacecraft turned off last weekend.

The energetic particle instrument EPI-Hi (Energetic Particle Instrument-Hi) shut down on February 12, 2023 while the probe was loaded with a patch software update. Parker will be back online soon, as the mission team announced on Friday, February 17.

NASA said:

The Anomaly Analysis Board determined that the tool was activated prematurely before the new patch was fully downloaded.

In general, the Parker Solar Probe remains operational. The agency also explains that EPI-Hi will be offline for several weeks, as the probe’s location currently blocks a good line of communication. The probe should return to work before it begins to approach the Sun on March 12. This will be the probe’s 15th approach to the Sun.
