Memory and energy saving modes appeared in Google Chrome

Google has started implementing Memory Saver and Energy Saver modes for all users in the Chrome browser. It was announced for Mac, Windows, Linux and Chromebook in December of last year. These modes can be found under Settings > Performance. Below is a description of the memory saving mode:

In this mode, Chrome frees the memory allocated for inactive tabs. This is necessary so that more resources are available for active tabs and other programs and Chrome does not slow down. Inactive tabs become active as soon as you switch.

In power saving mode, “Chrome conserves battery power by limiting background activity and visual effects such as smooth page scrolling and video frame rates.” You can choose to activate this mode when the battery level drops below 20% or when the laptop is running on battery power.

Google claims that when Memory Saver is enabled, Chrome uses up to 30% less memory and can be used to keep tabs active where videos and games run smoothly.
