GeForce RTX 4070: solving doubts about the configuration of graphics memory

The GeForce RTX 4070 is one of the most anticipated graphics cards for a very simple reason, it happens entry model to the high-end of the new NVIDIA generationand will retain full support for DLSS 3 and image generation. However, it is also one of the graphics cards that generates the most doubts about its specifications, and that we have conflicting information.

A recent leak in the form of a list that includes various graphics card models that GIGABYTE could launch has raised even more doubts as it includes models with 10GB, 12GB and 16GB of graphics memory. However, we must interpret this information correctlyand put it in context with the data we already had and with what NVIDIA has released.

I think what has generally happened is that this list still maintains and lists GeForce RTX 4070 models that have been discontinued. It goes without saying that NVIDIA will not release three different versions of this graphics card and it also wouldn’t make sense to have a higher memory configuration than the GeForce RTX 4070 Tiwhich, as you already know, has 12 GB of graphics memory.

With that in mind, and taking into account all the leaked information, I believe that we will most likely see a GeForce RTX 4070 with 10GB or 12GB of graphics memory, and that it is impossible for us to see a model with 16GB of graphics memory, since this configuration would make the mentioned graphics card stepped on his older sisterTi model.

I’m inclined to believe that the GeForce RTX 4070 will come with a configuration 192-bit bus and will have 12 GB of GDDR6X memory with a frequency of 21 GHz, although I dare not completely rule out the possibility that NVIDIA will eventually release a version with 10 GB of graphics memory and a 160-bit bus. If this graphics card finally arrives with 12 GB of graphics memory, the company can reuse the 10 GB configuration and 160-bit bus in the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, it would be an interesting move.

If all goes according to plan, the GeForce RTX 4070 will hit the market sometime in April and should be priced around Around 700-800 euros. Considering that its performance will be between the GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB and the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti (in rasterization), and that it will be above both in ray tracing, in addition to the added value of DLSS 3, it could become a very interesting option.
