Redditor DigitalMofo wrote on the Apple Watch forum that the device saved his life. According to the report, he activated his smartwatch’s Do Not Disturb mode during his lunch break and went to take a nap. Waking up noticed that the device sent 10 notifications of abnormal heart rhythm and oxygen saturation.
Worried, he contacted a doctor who verified the results of the device via video link consultation. After checking the data, the doctor called an ambulance. (911 in the US) and called an ambulance. At the hospital, the medical team identified internal bleeding and provided appropriate treatment.
The user says that the medical team found that he had “gastrointestinal bleeding.” According to the doctors, if it had taken a little longer to get to the hospital, he would faint and die of internal bleeding.
It is interesting to see how the devices can be used to save lives. Thanks to the means of continuous monitoring, smart watches are able to detect changes in the user that he does not even notice. Obviously, smartwatches don’t perform diagnostics, but warnings are an important signal to seek help from a specialist.
Apple is investing heavily in detection systems and recently launched a collision detection system with the iPhone that is so sensitive that they are currently making emergency services a living hell with their false alarms. Apple has already released a system update and promised to work with the responsible authorities to prevent false positives.
