Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University, a research and teaching institution in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, have created a drawing robot capable of creating artwork. By the name of FRID robotic arm uses AI to transform text, audio and video information into pictures.

FRIDA stands for Framework and Robotics Initiative for Developing Arts and the name is inspired by the great Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. In a letter given to the press, Aaron Opperly, senior director of media relations at Carnegie Mellon University, said the robotic arm could collaborate with humans to create art.

Researcher Peter Schaldenbrand, a research fellow at the university, was responsible for the creation of FRIDA along with researchers Jim McCann and Gene Oh. So far, the researchers have not provided further details on how FRIDA works, but have shared images of the project with the international portal Gizmodo.

Advances in robotics and artificial intelligence
We’ve seen several advances in robotics lately, such as a shape-shifting robot like the villain in Terminator 2, as well as in artificial intelligence with the advent of Chat GPT, a chatbot that has turned the Internet upside down. In addition, AIs are also being developed to run various applications, from creating art with FRIDA to even robotic defense lawyers in the United States.

Continuation after commercial
With the development of technology, AI is becoming more dynamic and researchers are able to create robots that can even help us in the construction of buildings and structures. The application of such technologies is vast and opens many doors to a future filled with artificial intelligence everywhere. Of course, this also raises some questions and concerns about the unlimited use of artificial intelligence.
