Proteusa Mexican dog who died helping to rescue the victims of a strong earthquake in Turkey on February 6, will be immortalized with a monument in Istanbul, This was stated today by the mayor of the Sariyer municipality of the Bosphorus city Sukru Gench.
In telephone statements EFEGenç specified that the sculpture will be built in the park which he himself opened in 2011 in memory of the Japanese rescuer Miyazaki Atsushi, who died in an earthquake that struck eastern Turkey in the same year.

As a rescue dog for the Minister of National Defense of Mexico (SEDENA), Proteo traveled with a relief team to Turkey, where died at the age of 9 years and seven months when assisting in rescue operations.
Gench emphasized that the Mexican dog chelped save the lives of two people and that it will never be forgotten in Turkey.
The mayor added that sculptor Hussein Suna had already begun work on the project, which shows a “heroic” dog on the ruins of a collapsed building.
Proteus conquered the hearts of the Turks and with his name it was already called the animal rehabilitation center built in the Basiskele region, in the province of Kocaeli in northwestern Turkey.

Proteus’ body was returned to Mexico, where he was awarded for his efforts and sacrifice themselves while carrying out their rescue mission in Turkey.
